Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
Overview
Easymoji is a desktop application that runs entirely on your computer. We are committed to protecting your privacy and collecting the minimum amount of data necessary. This policy covers both the Easymoji desktop application and the easymoji.com website.
Data Controller
Easymoji is developed and operated by Magne Saetran, an independent developer based in South Korea. For any privacy inquiries, contact support@easymoji.com.
Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data under the following legal bases (GDPR Article 6):
- Performance of a contract, license activation and validation are necessary to provide the software you purchased.
- Legitimate interest, update checks ensure you receive security patches and improvements.
Data We Collect
License Activation & Validation
When you activate your license, the following data is sent to our license provider (Polar):
- Your license key
- A machine identifier (a unique ID derived from hardware serial numbers and OS identifiers. It is pseudonymous, so on its own it does not identify you, though it is associated with your license key for activation. In rare cases a device name may be used as the identifier label)
- Your operating system type (Windows or macOS)
This data is used solely to verify your license and enforce the one-device-per-license policy. The app periodically validates your license online. If your device is offline, it will continue to work for up to 3 days before requiring reconnection.
Purchases & Refunds
Polar, acting as our Merchant of Record, collects your email and payment details when you purchase. If you use the self-service refund form on our support page, your license key and purchase email are sent to our server and to Polar to locate and refund the order.
Update Checks
The app periodically fetches an update manifest from GitHub to see whether a newer version is available. Like any web request, this exposes your IP address to GitHub. We do not receive or store this data.
Website
When you visit easymoji.com or download the app through our website, standard server logs (IP address, browser type, request time) may be collected by our hosting provider (Vercel). When you download the app, our server proxies the download, your IP address is processed transiently and is not stored. The Polar checkout flow may set cookies for payment processing.
We use Vercel Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated website usage data (page views, referrers, country, device type). This service does not use cookies, does not track individual users across sessions, and does not collect personal information. No data is shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
The website stores a small amount of data on your device for functionality only: a cookie remembering your language preference, and your theme preference (light or dark) in your browser localStorage. Neither is ever sent to us.
Local Data
All your emoji preferences, favorites, recents, and settings are stored locally on your device in a SQLite database. This data never leaves your computer.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- No individual usage tracking (website analytics are anonymous and aggregated)
- No clipboard contents
- No keystrokes or input monitoring
- No personal information beyond license activation
- We do not sell your personal information
