Emoji shortcut on Windows

Press the Windows logo key and the period key together. The emoji panel opens where you're typing.

  • Win+.Windows logo key and period
  • Win+;Windows logo key and semicolon also works

Use the emoji panel

  1. Click where you want the emoji, such as a chat box or a document.
  2. Press Win+. or Win+;.
  3. Keep typing to search, for example “heart”.
  4. Click an emoji to insert it. You can also move with the arrow keys and press Enter.

What's in the panel

On Windows 11, the panel has tabs for emoji, GIFs, kaomoji, symbols, and clipboard history. It also shows the items you used most recently.

Clipboard history is off until you turn it on. Press Win+V and follow the prompt.

On Windows 10, the same shortcut opens the emoji panel, and you can type to search it.

What to know

Keys set by Windows
The panel opens with the Windows logo key and period or semicolon.
Recent items first
The panel keeps your most recently used items close. They change as you use new ones.
One emoji design
The panel shows emoji in the Windows emoji design.
